Two Rocks

Two rocks

We are two rocks,

lying in the middle of the ocean bare,

a defect of nature.

hard and firm,

far-reaching the bottom of the sea, you are.

weak like the soapstone,

thrown into confusion at the waves of the sea,

I am.

what shall become of us?

shall we cause shipwrecks?

shall we be removed to the house of the sculptor with magical hands?

or shall we be left here to lie unharmed?

untouched?

with the breeze caressing our rough-edged rigid structure,

scarred by the gentle waves of the sea's goodbyes,

that never seem to end?

or shall we be cast away like the mountain

triggered by the mustard seed of the faithful Christian?

of these, I worry

as we stare at the stars alone this night.

in pleasures painfully conceived but greatly appreciated

smiling at the constellations,

wishing to be free,

not caged,

in the midst of these troubled waters.

ii

I prefer the land,

not this sinking sand.

to be surrounded by a bunch of tall and short greens,

browns, purple and all.

where nightingales and sparrows will sing us lullabies.

where we could stand firm and watch the lions and gazelles at their sport.

where we could be free from the waves,

the fear of shipwrecking ships,

and the constant public but solitary life we once knew,

but one day will live to know no more.

either by our compulsory parting.

or my eventual breaking down to the nutrients below,

feeding the beauty that would lay before you.

stand like a god and admire! weep not!

for this day shall eventually come.

when we shall return  to our previous state,

before we were rocks.

take pleasure in admiring this field and all the sights it will bring.

savor it!

keeping the memories we'll share together with the night.

for one day you might land in that sculptor's house,

and be carved into a monumental piece,

and unlike Ozymandias,

the whole world will behold and cherish our story.
